MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Helping you stand with progression to a brighter future

We take an adaptable and individual approach to the multiple sclerosis care we provide, tailoring our support to meet the unique needs of our clients the entire step of the way.

Living with multiple sclerosis (MS) often requires just that attitude; it not only arises in a number of various forms, and affects people differently, but brings with it a level of doubt about how the condition will progress.

What is multiple sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition that affects around 100,000 people in the UK. It is an autoimmune condition – that’s where something goes amiss with the immune system (the body’s defence against infection) and it falsely attacks healthy body tissue. MS affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord; they become damaged and hardened, disrupting nerve signals. MS is not directly inherited; a combination of genetic and environmental factors is thought to cause the disease.

How can we help?

We work with each of our clients on an individual basis – starting with a detailed initial assessment by our nursing team to identify specific needs and any specialist support required. We’ll then put together a detailed care and lifestyle plan, taking into account all clinical needs, as well as social needs, goals and aspirations.

We know it’s not always easy to welcome somebody new into your home. That’s why we take the time to match each of our clients to the right team of personal care assistants providing their day-to-day care, based on both clinical skill and personality.

Naturally, our personal care assistants develop a detailed knowledge of our clients’ needs and conditions as they work with them. That means they are often ideally placed to identify early signs of relapse, or more gradual decline, and take the correct action.

What’s more, we understand that our clients’ care needs may change over time as their illnesses progresses. Through regular review by our dedicated nursing team we ensure that we’re always providing the right level of support to our clients – whether that’s implementing increased support as a result of relapse, exploring changes to routine to help handle symptoms, or adjusting to a change in conditions.

Through our holistic approach, we not only seek to help our clients manage their conditions but also enable them to maximise their individuality. If you require further assistance please give us a call and one of our clinicians can support you with your request.
