Ventilation and Airway Management

Ventilation & Airway Management

We provide ventilation and airway management support for people who have difficulties with their breathing due to complex health conditions. This is a clinical process involving helping an individual with their breathing, through tracheostomy care, invasive and non-invasive ventilation and potential suctioning to clear the airways.

Ventilation & Airway Management

Helping to manage these conditions in the home can demand a prominent level of clinical care, and complex interventions, such as ventilator management. All ventilated clients are managed by a clinical nurse with ITU experience having dealt with respiratory and airway management.

Spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and neurological disorders, such as motor neurone disease or muscular dystrophy, can all lead to the need for ventilator care and support.

We create our care around our clients; understanding their requirements and the nuances of their care before putting together a bespoke care and support plan to reflect their needs.

We’re devoted to upholding the highest levels of clinical care in the home. Through dedicated nurse-led training and supervision, we give our personal care assistants the skills and knowledge to be able to support the clients in their care requiring ventilator support.

We have a list of extensive training courses which covers the challenges and experiences of respiratory clients.

This extensive training includes:
• tracheostomy care;
• tracheostomy changes;
• tracheal suction;
• chest percussion; and
• administration of oxygen therapy.

Our robust clinical governance processes ensure that quality, safety, and management of risk are always central to the service we provide. Our nurse-led approach means that our people can proactively support the health and well-being of clients requiring ventilator care and reduce the risk of difficulties developing in the home. Our Clinical management system PASS helps us to enable Optimam Complex Care to monitor care in real-time to ensure continuity of care is being upheld.

For the families of ventilated or ventilator-dependent clients, ventilator care can be a challenging prospect, which makes our expert support invaluable. We support help not only to our clients but also to those closest to them, to enable life in the home on a continuous basis.
