SPINAL CORD INJURY

We specialise in providing tailored care and support to clients with spinal injuries, helping them to lead as full and independent a life as possible, from the comfort of their own homes. Ensuring that continuity of care is given so that each individual can enjoy a fruitful life to as much of a normal standard as possible.

What is spinal cord injury?

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is an injury to the spinal cord that results in a change, temporary or permanent, in the cord’s normal motor or sensory function. Common causes include trauma (eg. car accident, fall, sports injury), or disease (transverse myelitis, polio, spina bifida, etc.). With these changes, it can become quite challenging to picture life the same as it was before. But at Optimam we embrace normality and independence.

How can we help?

Spinal cord injuries can have a lasting impact on the people that sustain them, and the people closest to them. The effects can usually spill over to families and can cause a lot of stress for families to deal with. We work closely with our clients and their families to put support in place that is tailored to their needs and choices.

We all like to do things a little differently. Not one human being is the same and all have different needs, that’s why we take great care to make sure each of our clients receives the kind of care that works for them. Our expert team of nurses assess every client’s clinical and social requirements to develop a bespoke, comprehensive care and lifestyle plan. We’ll then pair our personal care assistants with our clients, based on interests and personality matching, because building strong working relationships not only puts our clients at ease, but it’s also key to delivering an excellent, safe service.

Our personal care assistants and nurses are able to deliver specialist support for spinal injury, including ventilator care, respiratory and gastrostomy management, nasogastric feeding, and medication administration, with ongoing support and supervision from our nursing team.

We’re committed to providing exceptional care through clinical excellence; our nurse-led teams ensure that we’re always upholding the highest standards of quality care for our clients, through regular monitoring, review, and training.
